Monthly Program
Southern Emerald-Toucanet by Jim DeWitt
Birds of Colombia
Jim DeWitt traveled to Colombia in December 2024 and spent a few weeks in the western mountains. Colombia hosts more than 1,900 avian species—more than any other country in the world—and the western mountains are home to a long list of endemic and near-endemic birds, some of them quite beautiful. The tour was focused on bird photography, so Jim had the chance to capture fabulous photos. Jim says, “The trip made me a champion for Colombia’s efforts to make itself a prime birding destination.”
Jim DeWitt is a birder, bird photographer and unrepentant blogger. His goal is to photograph as many bird species as possible. Or at least as many as he can afford. So far, he’s about 20% of the way. After more than six decades living in Alaska, he is about to celebrate ten years living in Boise.
Join us on September 21 at 6:30 at the Boise Hillcrest Library, 5246 W Overland Rd, Boise. This program is free and open to everyone.
On the 3rd Tuesday of most months, we provide our members with a chance to come and enjoy a presentation on a variety of bird-related topics. We often arrange to have local birders share their favorite birding places or experiences, biologists talk about their research, and natural resource professionals update us on wildlife and land management strategies.
Don’t be shy!
